Muslim Marketplace and Great Mosque, Xi'an, China: July 6, 2014

The Muslim Marketplace is filled with sights and  foods. The Mosque buildings are numerous, old (from the Ming Dynasty) and beautiful. There is a large Muslim population in Xi'an, with the men's white cap and women's scarfs a familiar sight.

I find the lack of refrigeration in 99 degree, humid heat scary.

The market we saw in Cairo had a similar overhead hanging, without the Asian influence.

The Mosque entrance from the inside. We did not need to remove our shoes.

In a Media Ecological moment, especially since I was there to teach that in the city, note the sign in the background of the ancient Mosque.

Old and new boxes

The first Lotus we saw.

The huge stone carvings are resting on the backs of turtles, part of the creation story.

Old technology tree support.

Feral cat that is fed by a Mosque caretaker. It sat down right at my feet and looked up at me with the most stunning eyes.
